California Personal Injury Lawyer FAQs

Do I need to pay money up front to hire an attorney for my case?

At The Okorocha Firm, since we handle personal injury cases on a contingency fee basis, we do not collect our fees unless and until we recover for you. And as far as costs are concerned, it is our general policy to advance costs for our clients’ cases, and recover those costs when the cases resolve. There are occasional exceptions to this policy, and we invite you to contact us to discuss your particular case.

How soon after my accident should I call The Okorocha Firm?

We recommend that you contact us as soon as possible after your accident. It is in your best interest to have proper representation on your side rather than dealing with the insurance company on your own. The other person’s insurance company may be contacting you to obtain a statement from you and make it look like the accident was your fault or that your injuries are more minor than they really are, and it is important to only deal with them through an attorney, like The Okorocha Firm, in order to ensure that that the insurance company does not take advantage of you.

What is the value of my case?

Generally speaking, the more seriously a person is injured, the higher the value of the case. Other factors affecting the value of the case include the liable party’s ability to pay (including insurance coverage and/or assets) and how clearly that party’s liability for the injuries can be established.

How long will it take to resolve my case?

The amount of time it takes to resolve a personal injury case varies quite a bit depending on how serious the injuries are, how much treatment is required, and how complicated the facts of the accident are, how many parties are involved, etc. Thus, the time frame can range from a few months to between one and two years, with simpler cases resolving more quickly than complicated ones.

How can I get medical treatment for my injuries if I don’t have health insurance?

A common practice in such cases is to get treatment from medical care providers (hospitals, doctors, specialists, etc.) that accept and treat patients on a lien basis – meaning that they agree to wait to get paid until your case is resolved. This is an effective option, and it is available even to those who have health insurance plans.

Can I recover money for my injuries even if the accident was my fault?

Because the state of California uses a comparative negligence standard, even if you are partially at fault, you can still recover compensation for your injuries. However, the amount you can collect would be reduced based on the percentage of fault attributed to you. For example, if you were 40% at fault, you would still be able to collect 60% of your case’s value.

Why should I hire The Okorocha Firm to handle my case?

At The Okorocha Firm, we pride ourselves in working diligently to recover the maximum amount of compensation for our clients, and in keeping our clients satisfied. We will stay in touch with you through frequent updates about the progress of your case, and are always easy to reach when you have questions. In addition, it is important to have representation from experienced attorneys like The Okorocha Firm rather than handling the case on your own, in order to ensure that you obtain the highest recovery for your injuries. Your primary focus should be on getting better, so we deal with the insurance companies and handle all of the paperwork so that you don’t have to.
